Level 1: Foundations of Complex Writing
Level 2: Expanding Sentence Range
Level 3: Cohesion and Flow
Level 4: Advanced Structures
Level 5: Mastery and Exam Practice
Develop variety in your writing with advanced connectors, passive voice, and more complex sentence patterns.
Level 2 moves beyond correct sentence structure to sentence variety — the difference between an essay that feels mechanical and one that reads with sophistication. Examiners reward range: using passives, nominalisations, hedging, and complex comparatives appropriately and accurately.
You will learn when and why to use the passive voice in academic writing, how to turn verbs into nouns with nominalisation (the style that dominates academic register), and how to hedge claims with modals and cautious language — a key skill for PTE essays and IELTS Task 2.
The level also covers causative structures and advanced comparatives, plus how to shift register across contexts so you sound appropriate in formal essays, reports, and letters. Every concept includes model texts and exercises that build accuracy alongside fluency.
