Step-by-Step Reasoning Process (Complete Elimination Protocol):
First pass — scan all gaps. Read the passage. Look at all gaps and the word bank. Identify which gap seems most constrained (fewest options seem to fit).
For the chosen gap: a. Apply the grammatical check. What POS is needed? Cross out options with the wrong POS. (Typically eliminates 2–4 options.) b. Apply the collocational check to remaining options. Cross out options that don't collocate. (Typically eliminates 1–2 more.) c. Apply the semantic check to remaining options. Does the meaning fit?
