Conditionals are sentences with 'If'. They describe a condition and a result. The Zero Conditional describes absolute facts and scientific truths. Structure: If + Present Simple, Present Simple. Example: 'If you heat ice, it melts.'

The First Conditional describes real or very likely situations in the future. If a specific condition happens, a specific result will follow. Structure: If + Present Simple, will + base verb.

For example, 'If it rains tomorrow, I will stay home.' Notice that the 'If' part of the sentence uses the present tense, even though we are talking about tomorrow! You can also swap the sentence order: 'I will stay home if it rains.'
