The Second Conditional is used to talk about imaginary, hypothetical, or highly unlikely situations in the present or future. We are dreaming or imagining 'what if?'.

Structure: If + Past Simple, would + base verb. For example, 'If I won the lottery, I would buy a big house.' I haven't won the lottery, I am just imagining it.

A special rule: When we use the verb 'to be' in the 'If' clause of a Second Conditional, we traditionally use 'were' for ALL subjects (I, He, She, It). For example, 'If I were you, I would study more.' (This is common for giving advice).
