We use the Present Perfect to talk about actions that started in the past and continue into the present. To describe how long the action has been happening, we use 'for' and 'since'.

Use 'for' with a period or duration of time. Think of it as an amount of time. For example, 'for two years', 'for three months', or 'for a long time'. Example sentence: 'I have lived here for five years.'

Use 'since' with a specific point in time in the past. This is the exact moment the action started. For example, 'since 2015', 'since Monday', or 'since I was a child'. Example sentence: 'I have lived here since 2019.'
