Adjectives describe nouns (people, places, or things). For example, 'He is a slow driver.' The word 'slow' describes the driver.

Adverbs describe verbs (actions), adjectives, or other adverbs. They tell us how, when, or where something happens. For example, 'He drives slowly.' The word 'slowly' describes how he drives.

To make a regular adverb, we usually add '-ly' to the adjective (quick becomes quickly, careful becomes carefully). However, some are irregular. The adjective 'good' becomes the adverb 'well'. 'Fast' and 'hard' stay exactly the same.
