We use the modal verb 'will' to talk about the future in slightly different situations than 'going to'. Use 'will' when you make a rapid decision exactly at the moment of speaking.

For example, if the phone rings, you say 'I will answer it!'. You didn't plan it beforehand. We also use 'will' to make promises ('I will help you') or offers.

Finally, we use 'will' for general predictions based on our opinion, not physical evidence. For example, 'I think cars will fly in the future'. The negative form is 'will not', which shrinks to 'won't'.
