Practice present continuous: actions happening right now with interactive fill-in-the-blank exercises. This unit is part of the foundations level of our English grammar course, designed for PTE and IELTS test takers.

1
We use the Present Continuous tense to talk about things that are happening right now, at this exact moment. For example, 'I am reading a book' or 'It is raining'.
2
To form it, we use the verb 'to be' (am, is, are) as a helper, and then we add 'ing' to the end of the main verb. If the subject is 'She', we say 'She is walking'.
3
Watch out for spelling rules! If a verb ends in a silent 'e', drop the 'e' before adding 'ing', like 'make' to 'making'. If a short verb ends in a consonant-vowel-consonant, double the last letter, like 'run' to 'running'.
